Tradeweb Portfolio Trading Corporate Bond functionality featured in Business Insider.

According to Tradeweb’s Enrico Bruni and Leland Clemons, clients have been using portfolio trading to trade baskets of bonds more effectively, achieving both speed and certainty of execution.

The arrival of the European Union’s €100bn Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency (SURE) issuance programme in October 2020 catalysed secondary trading activity in the sovereigns, supranationals and agencies market. Tradeweb’s easily customisable platform has been giving both buy- and sell-side participants automated and efficient tools to take advantage of the opportunities SURE has opened up.

The dealer-to-dealer market’s switch towards the Secured Overnight Financing Rate (SOFR) this summer galvanized broader acceptance of the new risk-free benchmark in swaps and was a watershed moment for building liquidity. Where regulators had struggled before to build momentum in the transition away from LIBOR, the July 26 “SOFR First” initiative accelerated SOFR linear swap trading. In the ensuing months dealers have gained a whole new level of comfort trading SOFR-related instruments with their clients. With today’s switch in the dealer-to-dealer market to SOFR for non-linear derivatives, we wanted to better quantify the market’s progress in SOFR adoption.

Though not quite as dramatic as the wild ride we saw in May, global government bond markets logged another month of significant yield moves in June, amid a series of notable economic and political developments, as well as central bank decisions.
